Crab Sukkha- Crab with Dry Masala

Crab is our favorite seafood. Love it in any form- fried, curried, in a salad etc. This recipe is one of our family specialties passed to us from our grandmother who is a fantastic cook- especially when it comes to cooking non-veg food. We would be treated to seafood almost everyday whenever we visited my grandparents during our vacation. They lived on a river and caught fresh fish from the sea everyday. Writing this post is very emotional to us as our grandfather who we loved very much is no more and we are several miles away from our grandmother. We are dedicating this post to our dear grandparents for loving and caring us so much.

Preparation time: 10 mins
Cooking time: 20 mins

5 big crabs(we got frozen, raw cleaned BLUE crab)
1/2 cup grated coconut
1 small onion finely chopped
2 dry red chilies
1/2 tsp tamarind paste
2 green chilies slit lengthwise
1/2 inch ginger finely chopped
2 tsp olive oil
salt to taste.

Make a coarse masala by grinding together coconut, red chillies and tamarind paste. Heat a skillet with olive oil. Add the masala to the skillet, add the crabs to this masala and mix well. Cook for 5 mins. Add the green chilies, the raw onions and the chopped ginger to the masala. Add salt, cover and cook till the crabs are done. Eat with hot rice.

Enjoy!

Note: Wash the ice off of the frozen crabs thoroughly and rest it aside for 15 mins.

Bharthy, we had similar problem when we were in India. We would ask the fish monger to clean it up for us and pay him/her some extra. Thanks 4 visiting!
