Beans Upkari- French Beans with Garlic

Yeah, we love anything French- yes, that means french beans too! When we started to blog, we were cooking dishes that we wanted to post on the blog- the exotic, elaborate dishes that would attract the viewers to our site. As we continued with blogging, we realised that it is very important to enjoy the blog as much as our readers- that means cooking dishes that we really enjoy eating and posting it on our blog for our readers to enjoy! The recipe we have posted today is a quintessential dish that makes it to the dinner tables in most Indian households (with just minor variations in seasoning ). Whenever garlic is added to a dish, it intensifies or mellows the flavors of a dish. In this case, the garlic mellows the dish while imparting a sweetness to it.

Preparation time: 4 mins
Cooking time: 12 mins

16 oz french beans
1 tsp mustard seeds
3 dry roasted red chilies
3 large garlic cloves minced with a mortar and pestle
2 1/2 tbsp olive oil
salt to taste

Heat oil in a pan. Add the mustard and red chilies. When the mustard begins to pop, add the beans and garlic. Add 5 tbsp of water. Mix well. Cover and cook on a medium heat till 3/4th done. Remover cover, add salt. Cook till done. Enjoy as a side with plain rice or eat it with chapati( a kind of Indian pancake).

Note: Discard the ends of the beans and cut them into tiny medium sized pieces.

Enjoy!
