Cabbage Stir Fry with Garlic

We love learning and experimenting new recipes. Whenever we come across great recipes we can't wait to make them. Can you imagine we came across this recipe when we were sitting in a car wash place waiting for our cars to get cleaned. We hadn't come across many car wash places before where they have a small lounge and a coffee shop with cutesy things to sell, along with great recipe books that lined the walls in the foyer. Seeing the recipe books we couldn't wait to read them. Once we sat down with these books we got so immersed in them that we totally forgot the purpose of our visit. We noted 2-3 recipes that we wanted to try. In the mean time, our poor car got fed up waiting for us. Only after a while did we wake up from our reverie.

This is a great recipe by Ruta Kahate and Susie Cushner from their cookbook " 5 Spices, 50 Dishes: Simple Indian Recipes Using Five Common Spices." When we prepared this at home, the comment we got was, " Great, it tastes like a Chinese Cabbage stir fry dish."

Preparation time: 5 mins
Cooking time: 10 mins

2 cups of shredded green cabbage
4 garlic cloves crushed in a mortar and pestle
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
cayenne pepper, according to your preference( we used a pinch as we don't like spicy food)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
4 tbsp olive oil
salt

Heat oil in a skillet. add the mustard, when it pops add the turmeric and the garlic. Saute for a min. Add the cabbage. Cover and cook till AL Dante. If you don't like it crunchy you can cook it a little longer. Add salt. Mix well. Enjoy with chapatis.

Enjoy!

I love that tandoori chicken down there..(drooling):)

Tandoori chicken has to be done in a Tandoor..and gobis are to be deep fried for manchurian :)..OKAY?? ;)..no alternatives pls!..and if you are still adament to bake em pls name "baked gobi manchurian" :)...a real fusion of the west and east with Indian...LOL..

Musical, You are like us! Thanks again.

Raaga- Thanks for visiting us! You have a great blog, girl.

Bharathy- Yeah, we thought so! Guess the flavor doesn't come out well if cooked in a tandoor for manchurian.
