A Simple Broccoli Dish

We have a love-hate relationship with a few vegetables, and broccoli is one of them. Until recently, we have loved it only in two forms, steamed or raw. We had a broccoli floret sitting in our refrigerator, and not wanting to throw it away, we searched for an innovative way to incorporate this not-so-friendly veggie into our diet. While browsing, we came across Kanchana's blog with a simple broccoli recipe. As it did not require a lot of time and ingredients, we decided to go with this recipe. The result - LOVED it!! This not-so-likable veggie succeeded to win our hearts, thanks to Kanchana.

Preparation time: 2 mins
Cooking time: 7-8 mins

1 broccoli floret, chopped into tiny pieces
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp urad dal
1 red chilly, broken into pieces
a pinch asafoetida
2 tbsp olive oil
salt

Heat oil, add mustard, urad and chilly. Keep stirring till the mustard begins to pop. Add broccoli and 1 small spatula of water. Mix well. Cover and cook on a medium heat till almost done. Remove cover, add salt and asafoetida. Cook till done.

Enjoy!

I agree, broccoli is lovely when it crunchy (like in this dish) or totally mushed up (like in cream of broccoli soup) :-D. Great find, girls!

Thanks musical! It is hard getting used to so many varieties of greens here, that you never saw before in your life!
