Beets Upkari- Garlicky Beets

Beets are one category of root vegetables who immediately become your friends once you taste them. The peak season to harvest beets is from June to October and it is during this time that they are more juicy, sweet and red. Low in calories, they are a good source of betacarotene, vitamin A, B etc. We present to you the always BLUSHING and BLEEDING BEETS.


Preparation time: 5 mins
Cooking time: 10 mins


1 large beet cut into small thin squares
6 garlic cloves minced with a mortar and pestle
2 dry red chillies
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 sprig curry leaves
1 tbsp olive oil
salt to taste


Heat oil in a pan. Add the mustard, curry leaves, red chilies. When the mustard begins to pop, add the beets and the garlic. Sprinkle some water( 2 tsp). Cover and cook till 3/4th done. Remove cover, add salt. Cook till done.
