A Yummy Chicken Biryani

There are serveral ways of making a biryani- the traditional method calls for grinding all the spices into a masala and cooking it with rice and chicken which takes a longer time than if you use a store bought masala powder. In today's busy times, it is more convenient to adopt the later when it tastes just as great as the biryani made from scratch. This is a recipe we use to cook Biryani at home and we adore it. It is simple, tasty, and at the same time quick.

Preparation time: 6 hours( that includes the marination time)
Cooking time: 45 mins

2 lbs chicken
1 whole packet National Chicken Biryani powder
1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
2 green chillies, finely chopped
1/2 cup yogurt
2 onions, cut lengthwise
2 tomatoes, chopped
2 tbsp coriander leaves, finely chopped
1 tbsp kasoori methi
1 tsp lemon juice
2 1/2 cups basmati rice
4 tsp ghee
salt to taste

Marinate chicken pieces in yogurt,ginger-garlic paste, green chillies, national biryani powder, lemon juice and keep for 4-6 hrs. Fry onions in ghee till it turns pink. Add chopped tomatoes and cook till it gets mushy. Add marinated chicken and cook till done. Add kasoori methi and coriander leaves to this. Make rice separately(should not be too soft). Layer rice and chicken. Serve hot with raita and gravy.

Enjoy!
